This DVD attempt to cram into about an hour the entire history of North American exploration. Given its aim, I acquire it does quite a decent job of doing so. It summarized five hundred years of history and many dozen expeditions and explorers into brief tidbits of information. I don’t mediate this is a righteous educational tool, since it would likely be somewhat tedious — it does not have very fascinating stories, honest a stream of information. Rather, this is a obedient starting point to someone wishing to research North American exploration and would like an intro to the main events and people in its history. Not really something to excite people about history, people seeing this should already be enraged.

ARIA is a amazing film. Each director chose an Operatic Aria to work with for interpretation to the mask.

The unusual DVD release is to be avoided. I pre-ordered this a couple of months ago and upon arrival, was totally dissapointed by the quality. It’s not 16×9 as advertised. It’s not even paunchy frame as it was filmed. Very unpleasant transfer from an extinct retort or release print. Unpleasant sound, doesn’t even recognize kindly with a 1080 upconvert DVD player.

I have this film on VHS tape. Three years ago I transfered it to DVD. My VHS tape copy is far profitable to this release.

In short, it sucks…….

This movie provided Liz Hurley with her colossal shatter. Soon after this, Dennis Potter snapped her up for the lead role in the BBC adaptation of Christabel Bielenberg’s ‘The Past is Myself’. She became Hugh Grant’s girlfriend and the rest is history. She transformed herself physically during her twenties, which is why some viewers have had problems identifying the occasionally nude actress that appears here as the very slim Liz Hurley they now know.

For me, ‘Aria’ was the classical music community’s response to the rise of MTV and the pop video. Directors like Ken Russell and Crop Roeg wanted to prove us that opera could be equally colourful and sexy, even if you couldn’t dance to it. And they proved their case, to my mind.

But like a pop video, you wouldn’t want to survey this too often. There’s no substantive connection between each of the videos, so you kill up feeling noteworthy the same as you would after a 90-minute immersion in MTV.

Here’s the story: The main character (whose name, at least in the interactive DVD, was Reiji Azuma, not Kei, though here we never earn out what it is,) is a unique high school graduate who is traveling to America for a month on vacation by himself. When he gets there he takes a hump from an unreliable cabbie who drops him off in a terrible neighborhood. While there he walks by a building that a mob boss is leaving. Impartial then a sniper shoots and kills the mob boss and his companions. The boy looks and sees the sniper, a young girl, in the adjustant building. He turns and runs before she can shoot him. She chases him down into an alley and attacks him. He dodges several attacks, but then she knocks him down and is about to waste him, but then an older man in a white coat tells her to conclude. He says the boy’s skill is impressive, and the man wants him alive. So the girl drugs him and knocks him out.

He has a dream where he wakes up support at home, and sees his family shot in the heads and killed. Then he appears in school and sees his friends killed the same contrivance. He then wakes up in an abandoned factory in the desert with the girl and older man with him. The man tells him his name is Sythe and the girl is Ein, and that his memory has been erased, and his modern name is Zwei, and that if he wants to live, he must tell to be an assassin. Ein too has had her memory erased, although she is timorous by dreams of her past where she is a exiguous girl in a village when men with guns attack, killing everyone eles.

Over the next few weeks Zwei is trained, building his physical shape and improving his marksmanship. A butch-looking dismal woman named Lizzie stops by to check up on him one day. She tells him Ein is also known as Phantom because she is Inferno’s top assassin.

Finally the day comes when Zwei join Ein on her missions as an assassin. Will he survive?

First and foremost I really loved getting to explore this prove dubbed and with fascinating animation. (The interactive DVD is Japanese language only with optional English subtitles, and mostly unprejudiced level-headed images with sound effects.) It was a bit disapointing not getting to design decisions on what you want the main character to do, but then I knew that before I bought the disk.

There are several liberties taken with the yarn, which may be splendid or unpleasant, depending on how you feel about that. The opening and closing scenes (the aged of which happens before we even meet the main character, the latter of which occurs after the extinguish credits of the last episode,) in which Ein is killing off rival gangsters, isn’t shown in the interactive DVD. In the interactive DVD we also don’t eye the main character leaving Japan or coming to America; the tale starts with him waking up in bed in the warehouse with amnesia. There is no mentioning of him having any siblings (although I plan the thing with him having a younger sister was a really nice touch, even if it didn’t affect the main anecdote at all.) His first meeting with Ein starts with him running into a reporter who’s been shot and wounded. The reporter gives him a computer disk that presumably has info on it that could distress Inferno, and tells him to prefer it to the police. Then the reporter dies. The protagonist freaks out and runs away. Ein sees him, and chases and then captures him. In his dream he has objective before waking up in the warehouse it’s impartial aobut Ein, and he doesn’t search for his friends and reletives being killed. When he wakes up with amnesia Claudia is there. (She has alot more screentime in the interactive disk, one of my few disapointments with the animation disk is that she has so small to do.) Scyth (his name here has a “C”) tests him by having Ein give him a knife. Ein then attacks him. He manages to knock her down, and on reflex stabs her in the arm. She then punches him with her qualified arm and knocks him out. When he wakes up they are gone. He leaves the room and walks downstairs, and runs into Ein. She tells him he has amnesia, that his recent name is Zwei and that if he wants to live he must work for them as an assassin. Then comes the training, and one day while Ein has left to go on a mission Claudia stops by, and it seems she has taken a deep, peronal interest in him. I’ll discontinuance there.

I had lots of fun watching PHANTOM the anime. Although the ending does feel satisfying, I really hope they do a sequel. Hopefully they’ll flesh out Ein’s backround more, we’ll obtain to peek more of Claudia, and maybe we’ll even secure to meet Cal. Anyway, this is one to check out.

If you long for a serene villa on the banks of a peaceful lake, dream of modern roses on your breakfast tray, yearn for the serenity of the Italian sun, then witness this moving movie. The setting is the last summer before World War II when a racy middle-aged spinster named Miss Bentley (Vanessa Redgrave) arrives for her annual vacation. She is immediately attracted to Major Wilshire (Edward Fox), a fellow Britisher amongst the Italians and Americans on holiday. She believes you can contemplate a man by his ears, and Miss Bentley has spot her sights on capturing the Major’s ears. Alas, into this mix comes a imperfect American (Uma Thurman) who immediately catches the Major’s ears, eyes, and other parts of him. Miss Bentley is dark when she realizes he is smitten with the pleasing young Miss Beaumont, but she does not give up. Humiliation and rejection arrive her draw, along with a young Italian who finds the older woman quite charming. Amidst a scenic backdrop and with the strains of Verdi’s “Aida” and other soul-stirring Italian music, everyone winds up with the moral partner and all, we presume, will live happily ever after. A light, clever, and often laughable film to delight in as you dream of sunny days basking in romance and beauty.

So you’ve unprejudiced gotten home from a rough day at the office, or your unfortunate about something and wish you could recall a spur of the moment lunge to oh so relaxing and romantic Italy (preferably Lake Como!) . This is a grand design to snort your children about American history. This Is America, Charlie Brown was an 8 allotment miniseries in 1988-89. The mini-series ends with a gawk at The Music and Heroes of America, in a co-production by Schroeder and Lucy (which was certainly NOT Schroeder’s plan!) This was certainly a departure for Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez’s long line of TV specials based on Schulz’s distinguished humorous strip, but for the most fragment they turned out well. In a few of these episodes, the drawing is a dinky sloppy, but not totally unwatchable. There are a lot of expedient character moments in these shows as well as all those facts…Snoopy and woodstock trying on powdered wigs in the Constitution episode, Charlie Brown loaning Ben Franklin a kite, Lucy pulling her former football gag on Charlie Brown in the Nasa Status Space and a lot more…One of my popular parts is seeing objective who drove the golden spike that connected the railroads (according to Schulz, anyway) I won’t spoil it here, peek it yourself!

Film critic Gilberto Perez (The Material Ghost), wrote that the best filmmakers are not glad with veneer or plausibility, but glimpse from reality “something richer and stranger, of more potency and consequence, but also, in that measure, harder to deal with coherently, more resistant to command map.” Reygadas is in my thought one of those filmmakers whose work doesn’t feel like it is trying to assert you something or to entertain you or to create you feel something specific, but who seeks with each film to view something dependable. Not so worthy to yell a account as to let a epic explain itself, to let human being and nature explain itself in all its strangeness and wonder.

The opening scene of this film is among the most remarkable I’ve seen. A scene of intimacy is not there to madden the viewer, or to compose a sense of vicarious satisfaction — like all loyal sex (not the groundless sex that sells products or pornography), it is awkward and estranging to stare, the scene reminds us that sex is a peculiar thing, like all right sex it means something only for the participant. Once again, Gilberto Perez writes that the anxiety of arresting with the valid in film is that “the closer the engagement with reality, the more difficult the task of giving it do and meaning … [but] the risk of incoherence must be hurry, unruly reality met on a ground terminate enough to its acquire for its energies and its resistance to approach into play. This is a treasure epic that is subtle, without melodramatic over acting, but the message is strong and vibrant. I can’t really represent it in words very well, it’s the kind of movie that really transports you to and makes you feel like you are there, really emphasizing on the characters and spot. It makes you feel that the director REALLY knows what hes doing, and that he got it apt. Technically there are some scenes that fabricate you contemplate, “how did they do that, that was incredible”, or “that shot was awesome”. It’s a drama, yet there are some petite laughable moments because it feels so staunch, and unprejudiced like actual life, laughable things happen even when were dark. If your looking for Pleasurable movie, that doesn’t Unprejudiced entertain, then give this one a go! There is nothing else like it!

Blanche and her boyfriends, Rose and her outlook, Sofia’s expansive wit and Dorothy being the butt of jokes is fair precious.

I treasure the complete position and am very appreciative of owning it.

I purchased the paunchy series for my mother of 75. She has altzehimers and watches at least 3 episodes per night. We are currently on season 6 & she andd I worship it. I would recommend this series to all. It is well worth the money.The Golden Girls – The Complete First Season

I was born here in the U.S. and all my life I grew up listening to stories about war and so on. I never imagined the atrocities my parents and grandparents had to go through. This movie brought me to tears as my dad remembers hiding down the well, so the guerilla warriors wouldnt get him. My mothers tells of not sleeping because she was jumpy the guerilla or guardia civil (u.s. backed military) would rupture in and rape all her 5 sisters, mother and grandmother. I couldnt visualize in my mind how dreadful it was until I saw this movie. I recommend it to those who have salvadorean roots or impartial to the general public. It is considerable to peer the atrocities the U.S. government did and serene to this day does in other countries.

If the point of “The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg” is lost on the viewer, then history itself effect the writing on the wall when the owner of the Detroit Tigers misunderstood the meaning of an weak photograph of Greenberg and traded his star to the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 1947 season. Greenberg’s last season in the baseball was Jackie Robinson’s first, and Greenberg was in the National League to examine it first hand. Not surprisingly, Greenberg was one of the few opposing ball players to offer Robinson encouragement in breaking baseball’s color line. But then, as this 1999 documentary proved repeatedly, no white player in the history of the game had been subjected to the abuse Greenberg suffered because his was Jewish. Without a doubt Robinson suffered more, maybe even more that first season than Greenberg his entire career. But this documentary also shows that Greenberg was as principal to the American Jewish community as Jackie was to African Americans.

I remembered that Greenberg was the first person to regain the MVP award at two different positions and that in 1935 he had 100 R.B.I.’s at the fracture and was not selected for the All-Star team (Manager Mickey Cochrane did not want to be accused of playing favorites with someone from his occupy team and picked Lou Gehrig and Jimmy Foxx instead) . But what I really picked up from this documentary was how excellent Greenberg made the Detroit Tigers during his career. If you sight at his career batting statistics you will perceive that Greenberg played eight elephantine seasons and batted in over 100 runs seven times for the Tigers between 1933 and 1946 (several seasons were lost to injury and military service) . The Tigers played in the World Series in 1934, 1935, 1940, and 1945, and Greenberg was the favorite denominator for those teams. You will be hard pressed to win a major league baseball player with that sort of success ratio since Greenberg’s day outside of Fresh York Yankees like Berra, Ford, Mantle, and Jeter.

Writer-director Aviva Kempner balances Greenberg’s playing career with the impact he had as baseball’s first Jewish star. There are some clips from an mature interview with Greenberg, who died in 1986. But most of the talking heads are from contemporary clips of Greenberg’s family, aged teammates, reporters, and lifelong fans. The last category are the most absorbing, because it includes not only famed people like Walter Matthau and Alan Dershowitz, but ordinary fans, including several rabbis and a self-admitted “groupie.” These are the people with whom “The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg” resonates the most. Hank Greenberg was more than unprejudiced a baseball superstar. He was an icon — the pride and joy of the Jewish Americans in the 1930s and 40s amidst rampant anti-Semitism. As the first prominent Jewish player in the Major League Baseball, Greenberg not only established himself as one of the best sluggers in baseball history, but he also gave the Jewish Americans something to cheer about. He also paved a path for other baseball pioneers like Jackie Robinson as he quietly fought discrimination by letting his stats teach for themselves.

This movie isn’t your typical dull documentary either. It shows a nice balance of Greenberg’s baseball achievements and personal life (though I wish they focused a bit more on the baseball allotment) with a favorable mixture of worn baseball footage, interviews with fans, family, friends and Greenberg himself, as well as clips from classic baseball movies such as The Pride of the Yankees. You don’t have to be a baseball fan/historian to appreciate and delight in this movie. Besides, there is nothing quite like listening to “Remove Me out to the Ball Game” sung in Yiddish.
